This dissertation will present an integrated model of trauma. It will concern itselfwith the psychobiological, emotional, perceptual, and phenomenological processes that occur during experiences of trauma and extreme stress, and their significance to a new paradigm of mental disorder. The dissertation will begin with the commonly accepted characterization of trauma as depicted in DSM-IV TR. This will be followed by a brief discussion regarding the history of trauma theory and its relevance to current focus in the fields of psychology, psychiatry, and neuroscience on traumatic symptomatology.
