Parents of students in Scappoose charged that a book that is being used in an advanced placement English class is inappropriate and obscene for the age group. Two of four Greek comedies in a collection by Aristophanes were challenged by parents. They say that the language in sections of the play is inappropriate for high school students. It was suggested that the parents speak to the instructor personally first and then to talk to the high school principal. Robert Hammann said that the class is not required for students and that the curriculum was determined by Portland State University.
