The significance of the Flu virus for human health does not need introduction. Flu pandemics have killed millions of people. Despite the advanced level of health care in US, millions of school and work hours are lost and billions of dollars are spent yearly to combat the disease. Naturally, the magnitude of the impact on our society translates in ongoing research efforts to find better solutions for infection forecasting and prevention. Recent progress toward development of needle-free vaccination approach, universal vaccine and forecasting algorithms based on big data will be discussed in the context of personal health and decision-making. Examples of incorporating cutting edge research findings in undergraduate courses will be presented
