Characteristics of Excellence in Undergraduate Research: How do the STEM Disciplines at BSU Stack Up?

Mentoring undergraduates in research is one of our most rewarding activities in the STEM disciplines and is an excellent way to promote the growth and rigor of our academic programs. A recent publication by the Council on Undergraduate Research, “Characteristics of Excellence in Undergraduate Research,” has prompted discussion of STEM activities at Bridgewater State University (BSU). In light of thirteen years of experience with the Adrian Tinsley Program for Undergraduate Research, we ask: what IS the vision for excellence in undergraduate research in the STEM disciplines, has this vision been realized, and if not, then why? This panel will explore these and many additional questions for audience discussion that are specific to the BSU Bartlett College of Science and Mathematics. Our goal is to define and discuss various ways to increase research productivity among both students and faculty that is consistent with the standards and academic success of BSU
