Plenary 3: Multidisciplinary Engagement at BSU: A Discussion with BSU Faculty on the Benefits, Obstacles and Future Directions

An important outcome of the 2010 BSU Summer Teacher-Scholar Institute was faculty discussion on the need for increased support for multidisciplinary engagement (MDE) in teaching, research and outreach. In fall 2010, members of the Faculty Development Leadership Group (FDLG) sponsored a series of four open discussions with faculty and department chairs to identify how we currently work across disciplinary lines, as well as the benefits and obstacles to such work. These discussions revealed considerable faculty interest, an interest shared by the university\u27s academic administrative leadership. This panel will report to BSU faculty on the FDLG findings, summarize the results of the spring 2011 MDE faculty survey, and raise a series of discussion questions that will be used to further inform our organizational decisions about programs and support offered
