Photograph used for a story in the Oklahoma Times newspaper. Caption: "The W. T. Hales mansion, 1521 N. Hudson, in the Historical Preservation District, might be called the house that mules and horses built. In 1890, at the age of 17, Hales came to Oklahoma from Missori in a covered wagon with a dog, a pistol and rifle. He began selling horses and mules, and eventually owned the largest mule barn in the state. With the money from this business he built his first mansion and invested in real estate and oil. He was also a banker and was instrumental in establishing the meat packing plants in Okoahjoma City, offering $10,000 to each plant that would locate here. He died in 1938.
