The aims of surgery in CPA have changed from tumor resection and prolongation of life to the anatomical and functional preservation of cranial nerves. Facial palsy is one of the most serious morbidities because loss of facial expression is a functionally and psychologically debilitating condition. FN preservation in VS surgery is still challenging even for experienced surgeons. In large VS cases, FNs are always displaced and morphologically changed in an unpredictable manner.
