Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) is used to alter cerebral neuroplasticity and treat various neurological disorders. However, the mechanisms of action and the effect of different stimulation parameters on the outcome, remain uncertain. To address these deficits, this thesis explored rTMS in preclinical models of depression and Alzheimer’s disease (AD) examining behavioural and biological outcomes. We showed that medium and high intensity rTMS to the frontal cortex improved behavioural deficits in the olfactory bulbectomy model of depression; however they had differing effects on the underlying neuropathology.
