Examination of the syntactic features of transitivity in Akan verbs of cutting, contact by impact, change of state and perception.

The study aimed to examine the syntactic features of transitivity in Akan verbs of cutting, contact by impact, change of state and perception. The study adopted a descriptive and qualitative study. The method applied in the data analysis was distribution method. Data were collected from two major sources. The first one is the primary source. Due to my introspective knowledge as a native speaker of the Asante Twi, I constructed some of the examples myself as and when they occurred to me. The second is the secondary source. The analysis is pursued within the study of functional approach to grammar. The findings show that the cut, change of state contact by impact and perception verbs in their syntactic construction encodes the use of instrument and also involves subject and object in the structure. This research it will help in the analysis of morpho-syntactic structure of the language as well as other languages
