In this article we will develop a historical overview of the concept of nation, from its initial notions to its functional definition in the framework of the modern discussions on the origin of nations in Latin America. In order to do this, we will focus on the Peruvian case and propose that the idea of nation in Peru, which emerged in the nineteenth century, articulated real, subjective, material, historical and imaginary elements that were determined and reworked by a privileged sector of society We will call Lima literary creoles.
