Análisis space syntax de la Plaza Mayor del Cusco

The study centers around the main square in the city of Cusco. The paper investigates the role of urban configuration in shaping human behavior in build environment using “space syntax” approach that focuses mainly on the analysis of spatial relations. The method, developed by Bill Hillier and the Space Syntax department of the University College of London (UCL), provided us theoretical stance and analytical software, DepthmapX, to abstract and quantify spatial relations between areas, within the main square, in terms of syntactic properties of integration and connectivity, represented as axial lines that resemble the movement on the surface taking into account topological aspects such as adjacency and proximity. This allowed us to show the correlation between spatial configuration and subsequent human behavior, the Natural Movement determined by the urban form and the non-discursive nature of the movement guided by the sense of spatial control of highly intelligible areas.El objetivo de estudio es la Plaza Mayor del Cusco. El presente artículo investiga el rol de la configuración urbana en el comportamiento del individuo en el espacio, por medio de la aplicación del enfoque sintáctico que caracteriza el estudio de las relaciones espaciales. Con este propósito, el método de estudio empleado, desarrollado por Bill Hillier y el departamento de Space Syntax de la Universidad Colegio de Londres (UCL), se sirve de herramientas teóricas y de análisis realizados a través del software DephtmapX, que nos permiten abstraer las relaciones entre sectores, dentro de la Plaza Mayor, en función de las propiedades sintácticas de integración y conectividad, en forma de líneas axiales que representan el movimiento en la superficie tomando en cuenta aspectos topológicos de adyacencia y proximidad. Lo cual nos permitirá evidenciar la estrecha relación existente entre la configuración y el subsecuente comportamiento del individuo en el espacio, debido al movimiento natural orientado por la forma urbana y a la naturaleza no discursiva de su desplazamiento, guiado por la sensación de control espacial de aquellos sectores altamente inteligibles
