False recall occurs when people remember spurious details or events that did not originally occur. This study focuses on how both the presence of warning to be vigilant against false recollection and the presentation modality affect memory performance. A convenience sample of Lake Forest College students was presented with four false memory lists, some consisting of words and some of pictures, and were asked to freely recall as many items they could. Half of the participants were warned to be on the lookout for false recalls. Results and implications are discussed
