A importância do intercâmbio em língua inglesa para o estudante universitário brasileiro: principais modalidades e oportunidades

In the last years the search for exchange programs has increased considerably and more and more Brazilians wish to obtain the experience provided through this experience, since the labor market is increasingly valuing the exchange student's experience and the fluency in the language comes as a consequence. The English Language emerges today as a global language, whose usefulness goes far beyond the tourism. As a contact language, English is used as a means of communication in different contexts and, especially, in commercial relations with countries that speak several languages. Hence emerges the need to acquire the English Language so that the individual can be inserted in this world context and, above all, that is able to interact with it. Thus, the demand for exchange programs in English-speaking countries has been increasing in the last decades, especially among the university students who seeks for a better formation in order to be able to face the so fierce labor market. With this, the profile of the Brazilian exchange student is also changing, his / her age group, choices for the destinations and types of programs. In this sense, the article aims to analyze the main modalitiesof exchange in English Language for Brazilian adults focused on the labor market, emphasizing the opportunities for personal and professional development. We carried out bibliographic research in academic articles, didactic materials, books and websites specialized in trips and national and international organizations. We also deal with the difference between acquisition and learning, as well as discussing the main aspects that have made English a language of global reach. To this end, we discuss the importance of English as a lingua franca, presenting the definition of exchange and the concept of cultural exchange, in order to characterize the profile of the current Brazilian exchange student.Nos últimos anos a busca pelo intercâmbio tem aumentado consideravelmente e cada vez mais brasileiros desejam obter a experiência proporcionada através desta experiência, haja vista que o mercado de trabalho está valorizando cada vez mais a experiência do intercambista e a fluência no idioma vem como consequência. A Língua Inglesa desponta hoje como uma língua global, cuja utilidade vai muito além da turística. Como língua de contato, o Inglês é usado como meio de comunicação em diferentes contextos e, principalmente, nas relações comerciais com países que falam idiomas diversos. Daí emerge a necessidade em aquisição da Língua Inglesa para que o indivíduo possa estar inserido nesse contexto mundial e, acima de tudo, que seja capaz de interagir com ele. Sendo assim, a procura pelos intercâmbios em países falantes de Língua Inglesa vem crescendo nas últimas décadas em especial entre o público universitário que almeja uma formação mais capacitada para enfrentar o tão acirrado mercado de trabalho. Com isso, o perfil do intercambista brasileiro também vem se modificando, sua faixa etária, escolhas pelos destinos e tipos de programas. Nesse sentido, o artigo objetiva analisar as principais modalidades de intercâmbio em Língua Inglesa para adultos brasileiros com foco no mercado de trabalho, enfatizando as oportunidades para desenvolvimento pessoal e profissional. Realizamos pesquisa bibliográfica em artigos acadêmicos, materiais didáticos, livros e sites especializados em viagens e organismos nacionais e internacionais. Tratamos ainda da diferença entre aquisição e aprendizagem, além de discorrer sobre os principais aspectos que tornaram a Língua Inglesa um idioma de alcance global. Para isso, discutimos a importância do Inglês como Língua Franca, apresentando a definição de intercâmbio e o conceito de intercâmbio cultural, a fim de caracterizar o perfil do atual intercambista brasileiro
