This dissertation evaluates how gender affects college major choice in Brazil by estimating a discrete choice model with a nested logit specification. I use data from a Brazilian standardized exam taken by most seniors who wish to pursue a college degree, and a large matching platform for students applying to college, which is run by the Ministry of Education. The main results show that women are more likely to register in this matching platform than men, and that being female reduces the probability of choosing a STEM related major in the matching platform.
