The Metadata Encoding & Transmission Standard (METS) is an XML Schema created under the sponsorship of the Digital Library Federation and maintained by the Library of Congress which allows to create a rich structure capable to hold not only the multiple types of metadata used to describe the assets of a digital library, but also the own digital objects, be for management purposes, be to allow an interchange between different institutions.
