PESQUISA COM MULHERES PORTADORAS DO PAPILOMAVÍRUS HUMANO (HPV): a experiência viva dos preconceitos, tabus e crenças.

Objective: Currently, the genital infection by the human papillomavirus (HPV) is the most common sexually transmissible disease (STD) in the world. Our objective was to identify the knowledge, risk conceptions and preventive practices against STD and HPV among women in the public health care at Itaúna/MG. Methods: Our investigation was composed by quantitative and qualitative analysis, by the means of questionnaires and interviews. Results: The results of the study show a relation between the low level of correct information about HPV and the development of misconceptions based on rely, myths and taboos. Despite all difficulties since the beginning of the research, we have achieved our objectives. These problems suggested the existence of misconceptions about sex and sexuality. Conclusion: Our experience suggests the need of more effective work with communities in order to improve the guidance and awareness about the STDs and, particularly, the HPV.Atualmente, a infecção genital pelo papilomavirus humano (HPV) é a doença sexualmente transmissível (DST) mais frequente no mundo. Assim, objetivou-se identificar conhecimentos, concepções de risco e práticas preventivas em relação às DST, em geral e ao HPV em particular, entre mulheres atendidas na atenção básica de saúde da cidade de Itaúna/MG. Foram utilizadas abordagens qualitativa e quantitativa, a partir de aplicação de questionários e entrevistas, respectivamente. Os resultados demonstraram que a carência de informações adequadas acerca do HPV favorece o desenvolvimento de concepções fundadas em crenças, mitos, tabus e preconceitos. Esses resultados foram alcançados apesar das barreiras com as quais os pesquisadores se depararam desde o início da pesquisa. Cada barreira sugeria a existência dessas concepções que cercam o sexo e a sexualidade. Dessa experiência, surge a certeza da necessidade de um trabalho mais efetivo, junto às comunidades, de orientação e conscientização sobre o HPV, em particular, e as DST
