The article proposes to clarify the key inputs of the victory of José Mujica in the Uruguayan presidential elections of 2009. In a long-term view, presents the evolution of electoral parties and the transformations of the Uruguayan party system. From a medium term view, it focuses on the administration of President Vázquez, its achievements and limitations and its correlate in public opinion.
