UMA ABORDAGEM SEMIÓTICA DA PINTURA DE MANOEL DA COSTA ATAÍDE

In this work, we intend to show the efficacity of thesemiotical theory applied to the reading of non-verbal texts (painting,sculpture, drawing). Our discussion is based on the French semioticstheory builded by Julien Algirdas Greimas (1917-1992). According tothe semiotics, there are verbal texts and non-verbal texts, and anykind of text is composed by two plans: the “content plan” and the“expression plan”. In the content plan, we have structures of meaningorganized in a “generative course of meaning”, while in theexpression plan includes, in the painting, the color, the space, thelight and the form. The generative course of meaning is a model ofbuilding sense that can be use to understanding a non-verbal text,like the painting, for example. About this points, we work with a canvas by Manoel da Costa Ataíde (1762-1830), a brazilian artist,from the state of Minas Gerais, that painted episodes of Christ`s life.Neste trabalho, pretendemos mostrar a eficácia da teoriasemiótica aplicada à leitura de textos não-verbais (pintura, escultura,desenho). Nossa discussão é baseada na teoria semiótica francesa,construída por Julien Algirdas Greimas (1917-1992). De acordo com ateoria semiótica, há textos verbais e não-verbais, e qualquer tipo detexto é formado por um “plano de conteúdo” e um “plano deexpressão”. No plano de conteúdo, temos as estruturas dasignificação organizadas em um “percurso gerativo de sentido”,enquanto o plano de expressão, na pintura, inclui a cor, aespacialidade, a luz e a forma. O percurso gerativo de sentido é ummodelo de construção de sentidos que pode ser usado para acompreensão de um texto não-verbal, como a pintura, estudadaneste artigo. A esse respeito, trabalhamos com uma tela de Manoelda Costa Ataíde (1762-1830), artista brasileiro de Minas Gerais quepintou episódios da vida de Cristo
