Graduation date: 1983Changes in the Oregon salmon, crab and shrimp fisheries were\ud documented from 1967 to 1980. The related socio-economic conditions in\ud fishing communities were described. Trends indicated that the overall\ud importance of fisheries to port communities has declined and ports are\ud not planning for an increase in the fishing industry. Chinook and coho\ud salmon have accounted for a major part of the salmon fishery and both\ud show downward trends. The shrimp fishery has replaced salmon in 1979\ud and 1980 as the most important commercial fishery, but shrimp fishing\ud will probably not be permitted to increase until stocks can be more\ud accurately determined.
