This article aims to instigate discussions about the construction of educational research for policy and practices. This will be done considering three different categories: epistemological perspective, epistemological positioning and epistemethodological approach by Tello (2012). Moreover, this article will consider the contributions of Mainardes and Ball (2011), Lima (2010), Alves-Mazzotti (2003), Masson (2013), among others, in order to analyze the context of dialectical materialism, the impact of positivist approaches, phenomenological and materialist dialectics.
