Emphasize that are different dimensions that are involved in this process and how this involvement affect the quality of life of the elderly, emphasizing the role of the physiotherapist as a health promoter in this process.Segundo projeções demográficas, a população idosa vem crescendo intensamente. Este fato possibilita a aquisição e desenvolvimento de patologias que podem vir a comprometer a autonomia e independência do idoso interferindo, principalmente, em seu contexto psicológico, social e familiar. As alterações que se instalam podem prejudicar a funcionalidade global do idoso, vindo a gerar acometimento dos padrões de postura e de equilíbrio e, posteriormente, exposição a quedas. Esse artigo propõe-se, através de um ensaio teórico, estudar o processo de envelhecimento e compreender o acometimento das funções neuromotoras que interferem na mobilidade e flexibilidade do idoso, podendo proporcionar a ocorrência de quedas.
