This article analyzes the early of sport in Manaus, which began in the late 19th century. More specifically, we focus on the history of Sport Club Amazonense, created in 1897, soon taking up the role of main association of recreation and sports in the city. In Manaus, the beginning of the organization of sports, usually associated with other leisure activities, answered demands for fun and entertainment, but also played as preferred place for sociability of elite groups, as well as vehicle for public staging of their ambitions of cosmopolitanism and social differentiation.En este artículo se analiza el desarrollo histórico inicial de los deportes en Manaos, que comenzó en el siglo 19.
