This work goal is to discuss the relationship between lexicon, culture and animal categorization, that is, animal metaphors in light of Cognitive Semantics principles, especially Kövecses (2005; 2010); Lakoff (1987) and Lakoff and Turner (1989). The discussion is thus, organized in two directions. On one hand, we discuss animal categorization based on two kinds of culture models, The Great Chain of Being, and, as far as it is known, a set of beliefs and values of totemic societies.
