Biological evolution and internet: how to favor a correct acquisition of concepts through video lessons

The Theory of Biological Evolution of species is one of the scientific ideas of greater prominence and of greater relevance for the understanding of life as a phenomenon of nature. Such a theory has caused great discussions not only in the academic environment, but also in several layers of civil society, as it explains the mechanisms by which species arise and diversify. However, even with the accumulated scientific advances and the free access to information that we have today, the Theory of Evolution still finds barriers to its dissemination and acceptance by the more lay public. Even though it is included in the national curriculum as one of the points to be dealt with in the classroom, many students still have misconceptions about several basic points for understanding the theory. Generally, preconceived ideas and cultural issues end up hindering the process of disseminating, developing and acquiring concepts satisfactorily. From this, it is noted the importance of investigating the previous concepts that the population presents about specific points of evolutionary theory and how mass dissemination tools such as the internet can assist in the process of disseminating knowledge. This work sought to collect information, through an online questionnaire, in order to understand the level of understanding that people have about three basic points of the Theory of Biological Evolution, their interest in knowing it and how they see the impact of the internet about their learning process. It was found that a portion of the investigated public has deficiencies in the structuring of concepts related to the analyzed Theory of Evolution points and in the application of such concepts in simulated situations. It was also verified that a large part of the public (mainly the younger ones) uses the internet as a source of information and updates, consuming content in the form of video lessons. Therefore, the internet, through audio visual platforms, stands out as an effective means for the creation and dissemination of scientific material. At the end of the project, as an educational product, a collection of videos was produced to be made available for free on the YouTube platform, in order to favor the dissemination of evolutionary theory and thus counter myths and prejudices on the subject.A Teoria da Evolução Biológica das espécies é uma das ideias científicas de maior destaque e de maior relevância para o entendimento da vida como um fenômeno da natureza. Tal teoria tem causado grandes discussões não somente no meio acadêmico, mas também em diversas camadas da sociedade civil por explicar por quais mecanismos ocorrem o surgimento e diversificação das espécies. Porém, mesmo com os avanços científicos acumulados e com o livre acesso à informação que se tem hoje, a Teoria da Evolução ainda encontra barreiras para a sua divulgação e aceitação por parte do público mais leigo. Mesmo estando incluída no currículo nacional como um dos pontos a serem tratados dentro de sala de aula, muitos alunos ainda apresentam conceitos equivocados sobre diversos pontos básicos para a compreensão da teoria. Geralmente, ideias preconcebidas e questões culturais acabam por dificultar o processo de divulgação, desenvolvimento e aquisição dos conceitos de forma satisfatória. A partir disso nota-se a importância de se averiguar os conceitos prévios que a população apresenta sobre pontos específicos da teoria evolutiva e como ferramentas de divulgação em massa como a internet podem auxiliar no processo de difusão do conhecimento. Este trabalho buscou coletar informações, por meio de um questionário online, com o objetivo de compreender o nível de entendimento que as pessoas têm sobre três pontos básicos da Teoria da Evolução Biológica, seu interesse em conhecê-la e como estes veem o impacto da internet sobre seu processo de aprendizagem. Foi averiguado que uma parcela do público investigado possui deficiências quanto à estruturação de conceitos relativos aos pontos da Teoria da Evolução analisados e à aplicação de tais conceitos em situações simuladas. Foi averiguado, também, que grande parte do público (principalmente os mais jovens) utiliza a internet como fonte de informação e atualização consumindo conteúdo sob a forma de vídeo aulas. Logo, a internet, por meio das plataformas de áudio visual, destaca-se como um meio eficaz para a criação e divulgação de material científico. Ao fim do projeto, como produto educacional, foi produzida uma coletânea de vídeos a serem disponibilizadas gratuitamente na plataforma YouTube, visando favorecer a divulgação da teoria evolutiva e assim contrapor mitos e preconceitos sobre o tema
