Leitura na aula de inglês: uma abordagem baseada em gêneros discursivos

When the perspective of the study of genres is adopted in EFL teaching, there is a greater value given to the social practices that underlie the text. Through an analysis of materials designed for students in Rio de Janeiro schools, this paper examines the goal of teaching when reading materials are adapted for English classes. The paper suggests that, through genre study, the learner can benefit from building his/her knowledge of texts and of the social practices that generate such texts.A aplicação da perspectiva do estudo de gêneros discursivos no contexto do ensino de inglês permite um trabalho que privilegia os fatores externos ao texto. São esses os fatores que têm sua origem nas práticas sociais subjacentes ao texto. O presente trabalho examina o objetivo pedagógico que leva à adaptação de textos de leitura na aula de inglês, analisando materiais elaborados para alunos em escolas no Rio de Janeiro. O trabalho sugere que, por meio de um estudo de gêneros discursivos, o aprendiz possa solidificar seu conhecimento de textos e das práticas sociais que geram tais textos
