Organizational commitment: a national study on the concept and Its development process

Studies on organizational commitment have become more frequent in Brazil from 1980 onwards. The objective of this article was to hold a national literature review to identify and analyze the main topics of research done on the subject, in order to from the results obtained, to think about the main gaps in the concept, considering that such a procedure would serve as an action to recognize the field, its development and probably the starting point for further research. 51 articles were retrieved in the SciELO and BVS databases, and eight articles were indexed in the two databases. Among this material, 28 articles were analyzed, and 4 were excluded because they report researches held in Portugal and 18 because they did not present compatible scope. Analyzed data were: year of publication; type of research; used tools; type of commitment investigated; and consequent and antecedent variables. At the end of the analysis it was possible, besides recognizing the importance of the theme for the processes of people management and for the work of the work of the professionals of the area in the organizations, to identify that it is still lacking in researches to develop and consolidate itself as a diagnostic and management tool.Os estudos sobre comprometimento organizacional tornaram-se mais frequentes no Brasil a partir de 1980. O presente artigo teve como objetivo realizar uma revisão de literatura nacional para identificar e analisar os principais tópicos de pesquisas realizadas sobre o tema, de modo que fosse possível, a partir dos resultados obtidos, pensar nas principais lacunas existentes sobre o conceito, considerando que tal procedimento serviria como ação de reconhecimento do campo, de seu desenvolvimento e, provavelmente, o ponto de partida para pesquisas posteriores. Foram encontrados 51 artigos nas bases de dados SciELO e BVS, sendo que 8 artigos eram indexados nas duas bases de dados. Desse material, foram analisados 28 artigos sendo que 4 foram excluídos por relatarem pesquisas realizadas em Portugal e 18 por não apresentarem escopo compatível. As informações analisadas foram: ano de publicação; tipo de pesquisa realizada; instrumentos utilizados; o tipo de comprometimento investigado; e variáveis consequentes e antecedentes. Ao final da análise foi possível, para além de reconhecer a importância do tema para os processos de gestão de pessoas e, portanto, para o trabalho dos profissionais da área nas organizações, identificar que o mesmo ainda se encontra carente de pesquisas para se desenvolver e se consolidar como ferramenta de diagnóstico e gestão
