Blind faith, sharp razors: the dialogue between brazilian african oriented religions and environmental ethics

This article analyzes how the myth that Afro-Brazilian religions are degrading the environment and the historical and social reasons for the construction of this discriminatory discourse. Then, in order to overcome this discourse, the article demonstrates how the Brazilian religions of African origin are biocentric, since they consider man as another element of nature, and even when they make offerings to their deities, they do so from a ritual of sacralization of the animal that will serve as food for the community. Through a bibliographical research, this research uses elements of Cultural Anthropology to promote an intercultural dialogue between the faithful of the religions of African matrix and the animalists. The article concludes that in a plural and multiethnic society, the state must protect the environment, but also ensure the celebration of the cults of the various religions that exist and must live peacefully in Brazil.Este artigo analisa como o mito de que as religiões afro-brasileiras são degradadoras do meio ambiente e as razões históricas e sociais para a construção desse discurso discriminatório. Em seguida, visando à superação desse discurso, o artigo demonstra como as religiões brasileiras de matriz africana são biocêntricas, pois consideram o homem como mais um elemento da natureza, e ainda quando fazem oferendas às suas divindades, o fazem a partir de um ritual de sacralização do animal que servirá de alimento para a comunidade. Por meio de uma pesquisa bibliográfica, esta pesquisa utiliza elementos da Antropologia Cultural para promover um diálogo intercultural entre os fiéis das religiões de matriz africana e os animalistas. O artigo conclui que em uma sociedade plural e multiétnica, o Estado deve proteger o meio ambiente, mas também assegurar a celebração dos cultos das diversas religiões que existem e devem conviver pacificamente no Brasil
