Nilo tilapia rearing (Oreochromis niloticus) with Spirulina (Arthrospira platensis) in ferrocement tanks

Interaction between Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) and spirulina (Arthrospira platensis) can generate many benefits for fish, especially in the early stages of the life cycle. Thus, the objective was the viability of a Nile tilapia rearing with spirulina in ferrocement tanks with brackish water recirculation. The field experiment was conducted on a pilot scale for 43 days, with the stocking of newly reverted fingerlings (0.8 g) in salinity water 10 at the density of 200 fish/m³. Three cultivation modules were constructed in which three different food managements were used: M1 – 100% of the supply of fish feed in clear water; M2 – 50% of the fish feed in spirulina Waters; and M3 – without supply of fish feed in spirulina waters. In the culture, the zootechnical performance of the fish was analyzed, as well as the water quality. After this period, the health of the culture was verified through the evaluation of hematological parameters of the blood and the incorporation or not of glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) in the skin matrix of the fish. An assessment was also made of the financial viability of fish rearing. The ferrocement structure was easy to construct and low cost, besides facilitating the recirculation of the water allowing its reuse. The M2 treatment presented the best zootechnical performance at the end of breeding, with 98.6% survival and apparent feed conversion of 0.52:1, due to the beneficial interaction between fish and microalgae, leaving the levels of pH, alkalinity, hardness, nitrogen and phosphates within the comfort range for the species in the worked salinity. Spirulina increased hemoglobin, erythrocytes and total leukocytes, making M2 the highest hematimetric indexes. Quantity of GAGs grew with the greater participation of spirulina in the diet, with an addition of up to 115%, making tilapia skin potentially more effective in the treatment of burns. Financial analysis showed a fairly viable breeding venture, with a cost-benefit ratio of 1.66 and a leveling point of 26.42%, having refunded the amount invested in 1.45 years despite the production cost of US$ 1.47 kg of fish. The rearing of Nile tilapia with spirulina in brackish water is feasible even by reducing the amount of artificial feed in half as a function of the supplementation of live spirulina in the water, that improves fish sanity and increases the healing potential of its skin.Apoio financeiro realizado pela instituição CAPES.A interação entre tilápia do Nilo (Oreochromis niloticus) e spirulina (Arthrospira platensis) pode gerar muitos benefícios aos peixes, em especial nas fases iniciais do ciclo de vida. Assim, objetivou-se a viabilidade de uma recria de tilápia nilótica com spirulina em tanques de ferrocimento com recirculação de água salobra. O experimento de campo foi realizado em escala piloto durante 43 dias, com a estocagem de alevinos recém revertidos (0,8 g) em água de salinidade 10 na densidade 200 peixes/m³. Foram construídos três módulos de cultivo nos quais empregou-se três manejos alimentares distintos: M1 – 100% da oferta de ração em águas claras; M2 – 50% da ração em águas com spirulina; e M3 – sem oferta de ração em águas com spirulina. Durante o cultivo, analisou-se o desempenho zootécnico dos peixes, bem como a qualidade de água. Verificou-se, após esse período, a sanidade do cultivo através da avaliação dos parâmetros hematológicos do sangue e da incorporação ou não de glicosaminoglicanos (GAGs) na matriz de pele dos peixes. Também foi realizada uma avaliação de viabilidade financeira da recria. A estrutura de ferrocimento foi de fácil construção e baixo custo, além de facilitar a recirculação da água permitindo o seu reuso. O tratamento M2 apresentou o melhor desempenho zootécnico no final do cultivo, com 98,6% de sobrevivência e conversão alimentar aparente de 0,52:1 devido à benéfica interação entre peixes e microalgas, deixando os níveis de pH, alcalinidade, dureza, nitrogenados e fosfatos dentro da faixa de conforto para a espécie na salinidade trabalhada. A spirulina aumentou a taxa de hemoglobina, os eritrócitos e os leucócitos totais, fazendo com que M2 apresentasse os maiores índices hematimétricos. A quantidade de GAGs cresceu com a maior participação da spirulina na dieta, com adição de rendimento de até 115%, tornando a pele da tilápia potencialmente mais eficaz no tratamento de queimaduras. A análise financeira mostrou um empreendimento de recria bastante viável, com relação benefício-custo de 1,66 e ponto de nivelamento em 26,42%, tendo restituído o montante investido em 1,45 anos apesar do custo de produção de R$ 5,72 kg de peixe. A recria de tilápia do Nilo com spirulina em água salobra é viável mesmo diminuindo a quantidade de ração artificial pela metade em função da suplementação de spirulina viva na água, que melhora a sanidade dos peixes e aumenta o potencial cicatrizante da sua pele
