Modes of narrating the immigrant condition in Der enthaarte Affe, by Güney Dal

Revista Entrelaces, Fortaleza, v. 1, n. 11, p. 28-40, jan./mar. 2018.Güney Dal is a Turkish writer who lives in Germany and writes texts, which deal with the situation of Turkish immigrants in that country. For his contribution to the literary imaginary around immigrants in Germany he was awarded the important Adelbert von Chamisso Prize, in 1997. The novel Der enthaarte Affe discusses the ways the Turkish main character deals with the difficulties he finds when trying to settle down in the new country. Hence, this articles aims to analyse the identity construction and its representation in two situations: in the protagonist’s macro-social view in his role as immigrant and in the immigrant’s social interactions with the members of the hegemonic group. In this context, identity is understood as a dialogical principle, in which the subject negotiates meanings and builds an auto-representational narrative. Accordingly, the individual needs to negotiate, for example, questions which involve discursive configurations that characterize the society where he lives and he needs to interact with the social actors who form this space of interaction.Güney Dal é um escritor turco que vive na Alemanha e escreve textos que abordam a situação dos imigrantes turcos naquele país. Por sua contribuição para construção de um imaginário literário em volta do imigrante na Alemanha, ele foi condecorado com o importante prêmio Adelbert von Chamisso, em 1997. O romance Der enthaarte Affe (‘O macaco depilado’, sem tradução para o português) aborda os modos como o protagonista de origem turca administra as dificuldades que encontra ao tentar estabelecer-se no novo país. Com isso, este artigo pretende empreender uma discussão sobre a construção de identidade e sua representação em duas situações: na visão macrossocial do protagonista imigrante e nas interações sociais do imigrante com membros do grupo hegemônico. Identidade, neste contexto, é compreendida como princípio dialógico, em que o sujeito negocia sentidos e forma uma narrativa de autorrepresentação. Nisso, o indivíduo precisa negociar, por exemplo, questões que envolvem as configurações discursivas que caracterizam a sociedade em que vive e precisa interagir com os atores sociais que formam esse espaço de interação
