Desertification in northeastern Brazil: An analysis of socioeconomic vulnerabilities of the municipality of Irauçuba/CE

The study aims to analyze the socio-economic, production and environmental vulnerability in Irauçuba/Ceará, one of the municipalities most affected by the desertification process in the Northeast region of Brazil. In addition to poverty, the analysis found that 66% of the population does not have any type of garbage collection, 30% does not have where to put their waste and 72% of respondents do not know what desertification is. It is concluded that predatory farming practices and high socioeconomic vulnerability involve increasing desertification.O estudo pretende analisar a vulnerabilidade socioeconômica, de produção e ambiental em Irauçuba/Ceará, um dos municípios mais afetados pelo processo de desertificação na região Nordeste do Brasil. Além da pobreza, a análise constatou que 66% da população não tem qualquer tipo de coleta de lixo, 30% não tem onde colocar os seus dejetos e 72% dos entrevistados não sabe o que é desertificação.
