The article aims to further discuss the role played by William Morris in the design of a pioneer of the current ecological thinking and libertarian socialist utopia. We are particularly interested in highlighting the environmental perspective in the author’s creative effort, for which we will make a small cut in his utopian romance “News from nowhere”, originally published in the year 1890. The text to follow is a brief history about the concept of utopia, with a special section on the dualism between the approaches utopian socialists of the scientific and historical materialism.
