A new genus and species of Amblipígeo (Arachnida: Amblypygi: Charinidae) from Crato Member (Aptiano), Santana Formation, Araripe Basin

Dissertação (Mestrado em Geologia)-Universidade Federal do CearáA new genus and a new amblipygeal species are described here based on an almost complete specimen from the limestone of Crato Member (Aptian) of the Santana Formation, the eastern portion of the Araripe Basin in southern Ceará. It is attributed to the Charinidae (Holocene) family, although it presents four pairs of spines arranged in two rows and distally growing in the tibia of pedipalpo, which can be an ancestral feature, sharing with the referred family all other diagnostic features. Tafonomically, the specimen must have undergone a little post-mortem transport, being deposited in the probably anoxic bottom of a lake, thus allowing its preservation. The species of the specimen described should have been troglophile for possessing pulvilli on the legs, so living in rocky crevices in emerged lands near by water bodies, under warm and arid climate. The specimen described is the only known fossil representative of the Charinidae family so far known, being the oldest form of this family, which extends its temporal distribution. It can be assessed the importance and rarity of the Amblypygi specimens occurring in Crato Member, Santana Formation, that outcrops in Nova Olinda. There is little fossil occurrence of this order of arachnid in the Mesozoic, if we consider that, all over the planet and in about 300 million years, only some of these fossil specimens are known.Um novo gênero e uma nova espécie de amblipígeo são aqui descritos com base em um exemplar quase completo proveniente dos calcários laminados do Membro Crato (Aptiano) da Formação Santana, porção leste da Bacia do Araripe no sul do Ceará. Atribuído à família Charinidae (Holoceno), apesar de apresentar quatro espinhos pares dispostos em duas fileiras e distalmente crescentes na tíbia do pedipalpo, o que pode ser uma plesiomorfica, compartilhando com a referida família todas as demais feições diagnósticas. Tafonomicamente, o exemplar deve ter sofrido curto transporte post-mortem, sendo depositado no fundo provavelmente anóxico de um lago, permitindo assim sua preservação. A espécie do exemplar descrito deveria ter sido troglófila por possuir pulvilli nas pernas, portanto vivendo em fendas rochosas em terras emersas bastante próximas a corpos aquosos, sob clima quente e árido. O espécime descrito se constitui no único representante fóssil da família Charinidae até agora conhecido, sendo a forma mais antiga desta família, o que amplia sua distribuição temporal. Pode-se avaliar a importância e raridade dos espécimes de Amblypygi ocorrentes no Membro Crato, Formação Santana, aflorante em Nova Olinda. Pouca ocorrência de fóssil desta ordem de aracnídeo no Mesozoico, se considerarmos que, em todo o planeta e em cerca de 300 milhões de anos, só alguns desses exemplares fósseis são conhecidos
