Expression of future in french: a few words about markedness and rhetoric expressiveness

Polifonia, Cuiabá, v. 22, n. 31, p. 488-508, jan./jun. 2015.In this article, we deal with a sample collected in two online versions of French newspapers: Le Monde and Le Figaro , working with the future tense in written French, encoded by means of the simple future tense and periphrasis. Based on the theory of variation and change and on linguistic functionalism, we analyze the following groups as motivations for the variables: newspaper ( Le Monde x Le Figaro ), section ( actualités/culture x débats ), verbal regularity (regular x irregular), futurity mark (presence x absence) and concept of future (immediate x far). The results of the statistical analysis are correlated to the principles of markedness and rhetoric expressiveness, aiming to demonstrate that there is a preference for discoursivecognitive balance in the jornalistic text.Tratamos, neste artigo, a partir de uma amostra coletada on line em dois jornais franceses Le Monde e Le Figaro , do tempo futuro no francês escrito, codificado pelas formas: futuro do presente simples e perífrase. À luz da teoria da variação e mudança e do funcionalismo linguístico, analisamos como motivações da variável os seguintes grupos de fatores: jornal ( Le Monde x Le Figaro ), seção ( actualités / culture x débats) , regularidade verbal (regular x irregular), marca de futuridade (presença x ausência) e noção de futuro (imediato x distante). Os resultados da análise estatística são correlacionados aos princípios da marcação e da expressividade retórica, visando a demonstrar que há preferência, no texto jornalístico, pelo equilíbrio discursivo-cognitivo
