Shares of dentistry in childcare queries in the family health strategy

The prevention of oral diseases, from the first month of life, is relevant because dental caries in the primary dentition is a predictor of risk for caries in the permanent dentition. This study aimed to analyze oral health actions developed in Childcare consultations of the Family Health Strategy in a primary health care clinic in the city of Fortaleza-CE. quantitative, observational, comparative cross-sectional study. The sample of 62 children with their parents / caregivers were divided into two groups: with and without dental dental childcare childcare. Held dental examination for children and interviews with parents / caregivers. Data were organized in Microsoft Excel® program in 2013, processed in EpiInfo version 7 and analyzed using the Student's t test and Mann-Whitney. For the analysis of variance was applied to the Bartlett test. The chi-square test was applied to qualitative variables and Fisher's exact test when expected values ​​lower than 5. The significance level for the tests was less than 5%. The study was approved by the Ethics Committee of the University of International Integration Lusophone African-Brazilian, under number 1269635. The opinion caries index was lower in the group with dental childcare (dmft 0.8) than in the group without childcare dental (dmft 2.2) aged 4 to 6 years old. In the assessment of knowledge and parental practices, group dental childcare demonstrated greater adherence and daily toothbrushing frequency (p = 0.01); greater number of children with 1st dentist appointment (p = 0.00); lower daily consumption of sugar and sweets, and greater consumption of vegetables and unsweetened juice. There was no statistically significant difference between the groups when the values ​​of the gingival changes were compared. The actions of the dentist in childcare consultations in the researched Unit have been effective in many ways, but some points need to be reviewed to ensure that the issues are better clarified with parents / caregivers.As consultas de puericultura oportunizam ao cirurgião-dentista abordar a promoção em saúde bucal junto aos pais, desde o nascimento dos bebês, principalmente ao atuar de forma interdisciplinar. A prevenção das doenças bucais, desde o primeiro mês de vida, é relevante, pois a cárie dentária na dentição decídua é preditor de risco para cárie na dentição permanente. Objetivou-se analisar ações de saúde bucal desenvolvidas em consultas de Puericultura da Estratégia Saúde da Família, em uma unidade primária de saúde no município de Fortaleza-CE. Estudo quantitativo, observacional, transversal comparativo. A amostra de 62 crianças com seus respectivos pais/cuidadores foi dividida em dois grupos: com puericultura odontológica e sem puericultura odontológica. Realizou-se exame clínico odontológico nas crianças e entrevista com os pais/ cuidadores. Os dados foram organizados no Programa Microsoft Excel® 2013, processados no EpiInfo versão 7 e analisados utilizando-se os testes t-student e Mann-Whitney. Para a análise de variância foi aplicado o teste de Bartlett. O teste qui-quadrado foi aplicado nas variáveis qualitativas e o teste exato de Fisher, quando valores esperados menores que 5. O nível de significância adotado para os testes foi menor que 5%. A pesquisa foi aprovada no Comitê de Ética em Pesquisa da Universidade da Integração Internacional da Lusofonia Afro-Brasileira, sob número de parecer 1269635. O índice de cárie foi menor no grupo com puericultura odontológica (ceod 0,8) do que no grupo sem puericultura odontológica (ceod 2,2) na faixa etária de 4 a 6 anos de idade. Na avaliação dos conhecimentos e práticas dos pais, o grupo com puericultura odontológica demonstrou maior adesão e frequência diária de escovação dentária (p=0,01); maior quantidade de crianças com 1ª consulta ao dentista (p=0,00); menor consumo diário de açúcar e doces, e maior consumo de verduras e suco sem açúcar. Não houve diferença estatisticamente significante entre os grupos quando os valores das alterações gengivais foram comparados. As ações do cirurgião-dentista em consultas de puericultura na Unidade pesquisada foram eficazes sob vários aspectos, contudo alguns pontos necessitam ser revistos, a fim de que os temas sejam mais bem esclarecidos junto aos pais/cuidadores
