Hydrologic response in ephemeral courses in the semiarid region due to the vegetation cover and rainfall patterns

The aim of this study was to answer the question of how the vegetation of tropical dry forest and the rainfall patterns can influence on the coefficient of runoff generated by rainfall different heights. Data were related to the rainy seasons of the years 2008 to 2013. We monitored the runoff two watersheds: scrub in regeneration for 35 years (CReg35) and thinned caatinga (CRal). At baseline, 2008, both watersheds had the same vegetation cover (CReg35), only at the end of this year was made the sleaze of the watersheds, eliminating the trees with a diameter less than 10 cm. precipitation events were classified in the standards: advanced, intermediate and late rains. O objetivo desse estudo foi responder ao questionamento de como a cobertura vegetal de uma floresta tropical seca bem como o padrão de chuva podem influenciar sobre o coeficiente de escoamento gerado por alturas pluviométricas distintas. Os dados analisados foram referentes às estações chuvosas dos anos de 2008 à 2013. Foram monitorados os deflúvios de duas microbacias: caatinga em regeneração há 35 anos (CReg35) e caatinga raleada (CRal). No início da pesquisa, ano de 2008, ambas as microbacias apresentavam a mesma cobertura vegetal (CReg35), somente ao final deste ano foi efetuado o raleamento de uma das microbacias, eliminando-se as árvores com diâmetro inferior a 10 cm. Os eventos de precipitação foram classificados nos padrões: chuvas avançadas, intermediárias e atrasadas. Para identificar se os coeficientes de escoamento gerados antes e após o raleamento da vegetação apresentavam diferenças significativas, aplicou-se o teste “t” de Studart ao nível de 1%. Antes do raleamento (ano de 2008), a classe de P ≤ 30 mm registrou o maior percentual do coeficiente de escoamento diferindo estatisticamente ao nível de 1% de significância dos outros anos. Eventos de grande magnitude (>50 mm) o escoamento está mais dependente das características da chuva e das condições de umidade do solo. O raleamento proporcionou redução no escoamento total anual dos cinco anos monitorados (2009-2013) nas P ≤ 30 mm, com uma diferença de escoamento de 46,2% na CRal em relação à precipitação efetiva pela CReg35. O maior desenvolvimento do estrato herbáceo devido ao raleamento resultou num impedimento ao fluxo do escoamento superficial, necessitando de maior lâmina precipitada para gerar escoamento. O coeficiente de escoamento médio foi de 10,43% para a microbacia com CReg35 e 6,01% para a CRal. A resposta do escoamento perante aos padrões de chuvas seguiu uma mesma tendência em ambas as microbacias, com maiores precipitações efetivas registradas para padrões intermediário seguido do atrasado e avançado. O estrato herbáceo existente na CRal reduziu o fluxo superficial, o que resultou em uma menor precipitação efetiva nos diferentes padrões de chuvas quando comparada com a CReg35
