The Hydraulic Gradient Comparison Method (HGCM) is a computational process used to calibrate the hydraulic conductivity. It was recently developed as an alternative method to the conventional approach. The traditional method uses the differences between calculated and observed heads. The HGCM objective function is developed based on the differences between the hydraulic gradients. Some recent studies have adopted HGCM, proving its computational efficiency in the search for solutions to the inverse problem.
