Synthesis and characterization of ternary oxides of the Co- Ni-Mn with structure spinel

The spinel structure compounds may have a face centered cubic or body centered tetragonal symmetry, in which metal ions are distributed between tetrahedral and octahedral sites. Its physical properties depend not only on the nature of the metal ions, but also the distribution of ions on the sites. In this work, the method of the modified polymeric precursor was used for sample synthesis NixCo1−xMn2O4−δ, with x = 0, 0,15, 0,25, 0,5, 0,75, 0,85 and 1. It being the calcined xerogel at 900°C for 3 hours with an air flow of 50 ml/s and 20 rpm rotation. The results of X-ray diffraction showed that for higher nickel concentrations cubic phase of the spinel becomes predominant. And with the increase in cobalt content, the spinel begins to show both symmetry, cubic and tetragonal, being the predominant tetragonal phase with increasing atomic substitution. With the X-ray diffraction, it was verified that the increase of cobalt content in the material, can generate a distortion in the crystal structure, favoring the formation of the tetragonal spinel structure. Effect explained by the Jahn-Teller effect. Samples with low cobalt content present ferrimagnetic behavior and higher cobalt content show magnetic transitions at lower temperatures.Os compostos de estrutura espinélio podem apresentar uma simetria cúbica de face centrada ou tetragonal de corpo centrado, nas quais os cátions metálicos estão distribuídos entre os sítios tetraédricos e octaédricos. Suas propriedades físicas dependem não só da natureza dos íons metálicos, mas também da distribuição desses íons nos sítios. Nesse trabalho, o método dos precursores polimérico modificado foi utilizado para a síntese de amostras NixCo1−xMn2O4−δ, com x = 0, 0,15, 0,25, 0,5, 0,75, 0,85 e 1. Sendo o xerogel calcinado à 900°C por 3 horas, com fluxo de ar de 50 ml/s e rotação de 20 RPM. Os resultados da difração de raios X mostraram que, para maiores concentrações de níquel a fase cúbica do espinélio se torna predominante. E com o aumento no teor de cobalto o espinélio passa a apresentar ambas as simetrias, cúbica e tetragonal, sendo a fase tetragonal predominante com o aumento na substituição atômica. Com a difração de raios X, foi possível verificar que o aumento do teor de cobalto no material gerou uma distorção na estrutura do cristal, favorecendo a formação do espinélio tetragonal, efeito explicado pelo efeito Jahn-Teller. As amostras com baixo teor de cobalto apresentaram comportamento ferrimagnético, e com maior teor de cobalto apresentaram transições magnéticas a baixas temperaturas
