A modalização e os gêneros formulaicos: estratégia semântico-argumentativa

Revista de Letras, Fortaleza, v. 32, n.1, 2013, p. 9-19.The aim of this study is to show how modalization behaves in the formulaic genres, revealing how, even in standardized documents which try to turn the communication process into something objective and impersonal, we manage to find marks of subjectivity. It is composed of reflections about the modalization phenomenon in the formulaic genres derived from scientific investigations of the ESAGD Project (Argumentative-semantic Studies of the Discourse genres: School writing and the Formulaic Genres) at the Federal University of Paraíba and financed by CNPQ. The description of these genres enabled us to verify, among other things, that modalization is a strategy which can be found in all the genres investigated and that it is used with different discursive functions which vary from one gender to the other. Besides that, the investigations allowed us to review the classification of the elements used in modalization, confronting proposals by different authors, such as Koch (2002), Cervoni (1989) and Castilho e Castilho (1993), among others, with the descriptions in this study.O objetivo deste trabalho é mostrar como a modalização se comporta nos gêneros formulaicos, revelando como, mesmo em documentos padronizados que tentam tornar o processo de comunicação objetivo e impessoal, é possível encontrar marcas de subjetividade Trata-se de reflexões realizadas a respeito do fenômeno da modalização nos referidos gêneros, a partir de investigações científicas realizadas através do Projeto ESAGD (Estudos Semânticos Argumentativos de Gêneros do Discurso: Redação Escolar e Gêneros Formulaicos), na Universidade Federal da Paraíba, e financiado com recursos do CNPq (processo 501922/2009-1). A descrição dos referidos gêneros permitiu-nos verificar, entre outras coisas, que a modalização é uma estratégia presente em todos os gêneros investigados e que é utilizada com diferentes funções discursivas, que sofrem variação de um gênero para outro. Além disso, as investigações nos permitiram rever a classificação dos elementos modalizadores, confrontando propostas de diferentes autores, tais como Koch (2002), Cervoni (1989) e Castilho e Castilho (1993), entre outros, com as descrições realizadas
