NOMOS: Revista do Programa de Pós-Graduação em Direito da UFC, Fortaleza, v.25, 2006, p.47-66.The objective of this article is to present the some conceptions concerning the citizenship, as much in the linguistic aspect as in the scope of the ideologies, defining, a posteriori, the best idea that if mould to the modern thought. In the actuality, the citizenship idea is inserted in the scope to interdisciplinary of knowing, having to be prevented exclusivist approaches that, in the end, tend to restrict the reach and magnitude of the exercise of the citizenship. The liberal, republican and communist sight reflect, only, one facet of the guilder dimensions of the citizenship, which if joins inherently to the idea of participative democracy. This participative dimension of the citizenship is so dynamic that it exceeds the geographic space of the sovereignty of the National State, reaching the world, in function of the modern phenomena of the globalization and the challenges to surpass the existing differences in the States Multinationals and the problems being involved foreign - it is the idea of the double citizenship: national and the citizen of the world. Both coexist and share of the same ideal: the dignity of the person human.O objetivo deste artigo é apresentar as várias concepções acerca da cidadania, tanto no aspecto lingüístico como no âmbito das ideologias, definindo, a posteriori, a melhor idéia que se amolda ao pensamento moderno. Na atualidade, a idéia de cidadania está inserida no âmbito interdisciplinar do saber, devendo ser evitado enfoques exclusivistas que, no final, tendem a restringir o alcance e magnitude do exercício da cidadania. As visões liberais, republicanas e comunitaristas refletem, apenas, uma faceta das dimensões norteadoras da cidadania, a qual se une umbilicalmente à idéia de democracia participativa. Esta dimensão participativa da cidadania é tão dinâmica que ultrapassa o espaço geográfico da soberania do Estado Nacional, alcançando o mundo, em função dos fenômenos modernos da globalização e os desafios para superar as diferenças existentes nos Estados Multinacionais e os problemas envolvendo estrangeiros – é a idéia da dupla cidadania: a nacional e a cosmopolita. Ambas coexistem e partilham do mesmo ideal: a dignidade da pessoa humana
