The carboxymethylcellulose polysaccharide is a cellulose derivative with applications in the form of film encapsulation processes and controlled release of active ingredients. This work aimed to perform a technological forecasting of carboxymethylcellulose in obtaining films for encapsulation of drugs. Papers were published in the database of Web of Science and patent filings bases EPO, WIPO, INPI and USPTO. With the combination of terms, carboxymethylcellulose, film and drug, the search resulted in a total of 17 patents that after analysis found that Japan and South Korea were the largest depositors in the international databases.
