The teacher-student interaction and experience knowledge: prospects and implications for teacher training

Nowadays, it is required more from the teachers in relation to their initial and continuing institutionalized education. Only this training, however, is not enough to meet all the teachers’ needs, so, it is assumed that there are other learning situations that articulate and complement the academic knowledge, such as teacher-student interaction. This relationship assumes centrality in the learning process of the teacher as well, regarding the explanation of experiential knowledge, relevant to the practice of teaching. Then, the problem presents itself: which explicit knowledge of experience in teacher-student interaction enable training teachers in the early years of elementary education in the city of Itapipoca – in the state of Ceará? From this restlessness, we outlined the overall goal of this research: to analyze which experience knowledge explicit in the teacher-student interaction enables training teachers in the early years of elementary education in the city of Itapipoca - Ceará. This problem unfolds in the following specific objectives: to identify knowledge of experience occurring in the teacher-student relationship in the context of the classroom and to verify the importance of this knowledge for the teacher training. The historical and dialectical materialism was chosen as a method of study of this research, which is based in the qualitative approach and is analyzed as a case study. The research was conducted at the Educational Center Maria Azevedo Viana Magalhães, located in the city of Itapipoca (Ceará), during the years 2011-2013. Among the authors that supported this study, we mention: Haidt, Imbernon, Libâneo, Lima, Morales, Nóvoa, Pimenta, Therrien and Tardif. Nine teachers from the third to the fifth years of primary school were selected as study subjects. The following procedures were adopted for data collection: literature review, a questionnaire to characterize the subjects; conducting semi-structured interviews, and classroom observation. Continuous teacher training, teacher-student and teachers’ knowledge of experience are the categories of this investigation, based on the research problem, the theoretical framework and the data collected. The results of this research revealed that teachers have acquired over the practice of teaching, a lot of learning with their students, which were characterized and selected as significant for the profession, because they enabled training. Among the knowledge of experience constituted in the interaction with the students, the subjects indicated that during the years of education they learned to pay more attention, listen, tolerate and understand the students; recognize, value and identify the skills that students have in class; identify which students are different, so the learning process of these also holds this profile; be more humane, sensitive, considerate and caring in the classroom with students, demonstrating greater affection for them worrying about the students’ reality; be more persistent to achieve the goals set for each class, being flexible when needed, do not be authoritative in their work, and also recognize that they learn continuously interacting with their students. Indeed, it is evident that the student-teacher interaction allows teachers to acquire various kinds of knowledge of experience, integrated into the training of these professionals, through permanent, dynamic, subjective, plural and singular learning processes of teachers. Such learning comes from the practice of teaching dashed through interaction with the students, and is important for the training and the teaching profession.Atualmente é exigido mais dos professores no que concerne à formação inicial e continuada institucionalizadas. Somente esta formação, porém, não dá conta de atender a todas as necessidades formativas dos docentes, pois se supõe que existem outras situações de aprendizagem que articulam e complementam os saberes acadêmicos, como a interação professor-aluno. Esta relação assume centralidade no processo de aprendizagem também do docente no que se refere à explicitação de saberes experienciais, importantes para o exercício do magistério. Com isso, expõe-se o problema: que saberes da experiência explicitados na interação professor-aluno possibilitam a formação contínua docente nos anos iniciais do ensino fundamental da rede municipal de Itapipoca – Ceará? Partindo desta inquietação, delineou-se o objetivo geral desta pesquisa: analisar que saberes da experiência explicitados na interação professor-aluno possibilitam a formação contínua docente nos anos iniciais do ensino fundamental da rede municipal de Itapipoca – Ceará. Este se desdobra nos seguintes objetivos específicos: identificar saberes da experiência ocorrentes na relação professor-aluno no contexto da sala de aula; e verificar a importância, para a formação contínua docente, dos saberes da experiência especificados na interação professor-aluno. O materialismo histórico-dialético foi escolhido como método de estudo desta investigação, que é pautada na abordagem qualitativa e constitui-se como estudo de caso. A pesquisa foi desenvolvida no Centro Educacional Maria Magalhães Viana Azevedo, localizado no Município de Itapipoca (Ceará), entre os anos de 2011 a 2013. Entre os autores que fundamentaram este estudo, citam-se: Haidt, Imbernón, Libâneo, Lima, Morales, Nóvoa, Pimenta, Therrien e Tardif. Nove professores do terceiro ao quinto anos do ensino fundamental foram selecionados como sujeitos deste estudo. Adotaram-se os seguintes procedimentos de coleta de dados: revisão da literatura; aplicação de questionário de caracterização dos sujeitos; realização de entrevistas semiestruturadas; e observação de sala de aula. Formação contínua docente, interação professor-aluno e saberes docentes da experiência são as categorias desta investigação, instituídas com base no problema de pesquisa, da fundamentação teórica e dos dados coletados. Os resultados desta investigação revelaram que os professores adquiriram, ao longo do exercício do magistério, muitas aprendizagens com os seus alunos, as quais foram caracterizadas e eleitas como significativas para a profissão, porque lhes possibilitaram formação contínua. Dentre os saberes da experiência constituídos na interação com os discentes, os sujeitos apontaram que no decorrer dos anos aprenderam a dar maior atenção, ouvir, tolerar e compreendê-los durante o processo de ensino; reconhecer, valorizar e identificar os conhecimentos de que os discentes dispõem durante a aula; identificar que os educandos são diferentes, por isso, o processo de aprendizagem destes também detém esse perfil; ser mais humano, sensível, atencioso e carinhoso em sala de aula com os alunos, demonstrando maior afetividade por eles; conhecer e preocupar-se com a realidade dos educandos; ser mais persistente para atingir os objetivos estabelecidos para cada aula, sendo flexível quando necessário; não ser autoritário em seu trabalho; e reconhecer que aprende também continuamente interagindo com os seus discentes. Com efeito, evidencia-se que a relação professor-aluno permite que os docentes adquiram diversos saberes da experiência, integrados à formação contínua destes profissionais, por intermédio de permanentes, dinâmicos, subjetivos, plurais e singulares processos de aprendizagens docentes.
