Flying with seagulls: a study of the interactions in the education of the deaf

This study aimed to investigate the particular process of teaching and learning, carried over two distincts languages and cultures, this is, a universe formed by a non-deaf teacher and six deaf students. This is a qualitative research developed in an ethnographic approach. For data collecting, I proritized remarks, registering them through reporting and filming due to the spatial-visual aspect of the language of the students. Analyses of the data were focused in the strategies of mediation / interaction and in the discursive activities of the actors of a 4th grade of elementary school in a special school in the city of Fortaleza. The theoretical references are firmed in the historical-cultural vision of Lev Vygotsky, especially with regard to the development and learning as a result of a socio-cultural process as well as the constructs of Mikhail Bakhtin about the principle dialogical, that enhances the occurrence of several voices in the discursive activities, theoretical approaches that bring fundamental reflections about the production of the sign and participation of the other. The results obtained showed that the actors seek multiple strategies such as use of drawings, portuguese flagged, gestures etc. To fill the gaps of the failure meeting in linguistic , especially the students who do not ceased to make hard work of significance. So, I could verify that although be used various materials or symbolic resources, rehearsing a gestural communication, it is the sign language, the support which will serve as an organizer element of the thought of the deaf, as is a standalone system language, with grammatical structure independent, whose combination of parameters allows the preparation of contexts and abstraction. Therefore, based on studies like this and the legislation in the country that recommend the Bilíngüe Education for these actors, it is crucial that be organized pedagogic actions which teaching how to "listen" their hands and their bodies, emphasizing the discursive trading , with the goal of boost the development of such apprentices under the bias bilingual and bicultural.O presente trabalho objetivou investigar o processo particular de ensino e aprendizagem, que envolve duas línguas e duas culturas distintas: o universo compreendido por uma professora ouvinte e seis escolares surdos. Trata-se de uma pesquisa qualitativa que se desenvolveu com enfoque etnográfico. Para a coleta de dados, priorizei as observações, registrando-as através de relatórios e filmagens, devido ao aspecto vísuo-espacial da língua(gem) dos educandos. As análises dos dados se centraram nas estratégias de mediação/interação e nas atividades discursivas dos atores numa 4ª série do ensino fundamental de uma escola especial no município de Fortaleza. Os referenciais teóricos se sedimentam na visão histórico-cultural de Lev Vygotsky, principalmente no que diz respeito ao desenvolvimento e aprendizagem como resultado de um processo sócio-cultural, bem como os construtos de Mikhail Bakhtin a respeito do princípio dialógico, que valorizam a ocorrência das diversas vozes nas atividades discursivas, abordagens teóricas que trazem reflexões fundamentais quanto à produção do signo e a participação do outro. Os resultados obtidos mostraram que os atores buscam estratégias múltiplas, como uso de desenhos, português sinalizado, gestos etc. para preencher as lacunas do desencontro lingüístico, principalmente os educandos que não deixaram de apresentar intenso trabalho de significação. Assim, pude conferir que, embora sejam utilizados diversos recursos materiais ou simbólicos, ensaiando uma comunicação gestual, é a Língua de Sinais, o suporte que servirá como elemento organizador do pensamento do surdo, visto ser um sistema lingüístico autônomo, com estrutura gramatical independente, cuja combinação dos parâmetros permite a elaboração dos contextos e a abstração. Destarte, com base em estudos como esse e na legislação vigente no País que recomendam a Educação Bilíngüe para esses sujeitos, é fundamental que se organizem ações pedagógicas que “escutem” suas mãos e seus corpos, dando ênfase às trocas discursivas, a fim de potencializar o desenvolvimento de tais aprendizes sob os vieses bilíngüe e bicultural
