Practical classes about environmental education in an elementary school in the metropolitan region of Fortaleza - Ce

According to the National Curriculum Parameters (PCN), the Environment theme is treated as a transversal topic. In Brazil, public environmental education is stipulated by the Federal Law Nº 6.938 of 1981 that institutes the National Environmental Policy. Important for the educational field was the inclusion of environmental issues in the Law of Guidelines and Bases Brazilian Education (Law Nº 9.394/96), which now consider the understanding of the natural environment as essential to basic education in Brazil. Thus, this study aims to develop and teach lessons on environmental education in formal and informal educational settings to help students become aware of their responsibilities in regard to the environment. This environmental education addresses human intervention in nature and emphasizes the value of selective collection and conscious consumption that contributes to an improved quality of life in the region in which we live. This study proposes an environmental education program that encourages interdisciplinary work on the environmental issue of solid waste in the classroom through lectures, questionnaires, videos, library research, field trips, and science fairs, building subsidies theoretical and practical, involving mainly the issue of selective collection and recycling. The collection and separation of solid waste was later sent to recycling program, in addition to making green bins, posters and producing various articles made of recycled materials by the students themselves. The evaluation has taken place during preparation activities as well as the actual exercises and exhibition of the works,highlighting individual and collective efforts by observing students’ interest, participation in group work on this subject, being, therefore, the evaluation given for the science fair project constitutes students' grades for the fourth bimestrial of 2010. Field classes in nonformal educational settings (teaching school garden and butterfly UFC) contributed to encourage environmentally friendly behavior in students, making them therefore multipliers in reducing impacts and environmental citizenship. Therefore, the presentations at Science Fairs, combined with interdisciplinary and non-formal methodologies offers an educational alternative to developing work-based learning by projects, making it a learning methodology capable of engaging research and creativity in finding solutions to environmental issues, and science can be taught in a more innovative way that actively involves students.Conforme os Parâmetros Curriculares Nacionais (PCN), o tema Meio Ambiente é tratado como tema transversal. No Brasil, a oficialização da Educação Ambiental ocorreu mediante a lei federal de nº 6.938 de 1981, responsável pela criação da Política Nacional do Meio Ambiente. Importantíssimo no campo educacional, a inserção da temática ambiental na Lei n°.9394/96, ao considerar a compreensão do ambiente natural como essencial à educação básica brasileira. Este trabalho objetiva integrar diversas iniciativas de educação ambiental apresentando aos alunos o papel que o homem tem perante o meio no qual se insere, utilizando-se de ambientes formais e não formais de ensino, enfatizando o real valor da coleta seletiva e do consumo consciente, contribuindo para qualidade de vida na região em que se vive, por desenvolver um programa de educação ambiental interdisciplinar, ao trabalhar a questão ambiental dos resíduos sólidos em sala de aula, através de palestras, questionários, vídeos, pesquisas na biblioteca, aulas de campo e feiras de ciências, construindo subsídios teóricos e práticos, envolvendo principalmente a temática da reciclagem e coleta seletiva. Quanto à coleta seletiva, houve a arrecadação e separação de resíduos sólidos, enviados posteriormente ao posto de reciclagem, além da confecção de lixeiras ecológicas e artigos confeccionados com materiais reciclados pelos próprios estudantes. A avaliação ocorreu continuamente durante as atividades de preparação, elaboração e exposição dos trabalhos, destacando-se o empenho individual, bem como o coletivo, ao se observar o interesse dos alunos, a participação no grupo, conhecimentos adquiridos sobre o tema. A realização de aulas de campo em espaços não formais de ensino (horta escolar e borboletário didático da UFC) contribuiu por incentivar comportamentos ecologicamente responsáveis nos estudantes, tornando-os, portanto, agentes multiplicadores na redução dos impactos ambientais e no exercício da cidadania. Portanto, as apresentações em Feiras de Ciências, aliadas à interdisciplinaridade e metodologias não formais de ensino compõem uma alternativa ao desenvolvimento de trabalhos baseados no ensino por projetos, tornando-se uma metodologia de aprendizagem capaz de envolver criatividade e investigação na busca de soluções às problemáticas ambientais, mostrando aos alunos que, do ponto de vista metodológico, a educação ambiental e ciência podem ser realizadas por diferentes caminhos
