It observes to what measure the interdisciplinarity of aesthetics may help the theory of knowledge and the restitution to anthropology of its original conception as the science of Man. It analyzes the ethnocentric status of theoretical discourses, the foundations of the distinction between artwork and artisanship, and the classifications arising from the multiplicity of signs and aesthetic codes ruling human experience. It also questions the frontiers distinguishing art from other manmade artifacts. The paper presents a specialized bibliography on its theme.O artigo examina, numa clara perspectiva antropológica, o status quaestionis das pesquisas e reflexões sobre a estética. Observa em que medida a interdisciplinaridade da estética pode ajudar à teoria do conhecimento e a restituir à antropologia sua concepção original de ciência do homem. Analisa o status etnocêntrico dos discursos teóricos, os fundamentos da distinção entre obra de arte e artesanato e as classificações provenientes da multiplicidade de signos e códigos estéticos vigentes na experiência humana. Questiona também as fronteiras que distinguem a arte de outros artefatos produzidos pelo homem. O artigo apresenta uma bibliografia especializada sobre a temática
