The non-starch polysaccharides are classified according to their solubility, soluble and insoluble. The content and solubility of non-starch polysaccharides used to compose the diets of finishing pigs vary according to the species and age of plant tissue and thus can interfere on the performance of finishing pigs. Nesse contexto de acordo com suas características os polissacarídeos não amiláceos (solúvel ou insolúvel) podem ocasionar diferentes reações no trato gastrointestinal dos suínos em terminação. Aproximadamente 70% dos gastos da produção de suínos em terminação estão atrelados à compra de ingredientes que compõem suas rações. Dessa forma, a utilização de alimentos fibrosos, ingrediente quase sempre de baixo valor comercial, nas rações dos suínos em terminação pode se tornar uma alternativa e vem sendo estudada por diversos pesquisadores com o objetivo de reduzir custos da atividade. Os ingredientes fibrosos utilizados nas dietas dos suínos em terminação são compostos por fibras dietéticas formadas por um agregado de compostos formado principalmente por polissacarídeos não amiláceos e compostos fenólicos como é o caso da lignina. Os polissacarídeos não amiláceos são classificados, de acordo com sua solubilidade, em solúveis e insolúveis. A solubilidade e o conteúdo dos polissacarídeos não amiláceos utilizados para compor as dietas dos suínos em terminação variam de acordo com a espécie, tecido e idade do vegetal e dessa forma podem interferir no desempenho zootécnico dos suínos em terminação. Por outro lado o estudo meta analítico apresenta-se como uma ferramenta analítica que combina resultados obtidos por vários estudos realizando síntese reproduzível e quantificável dos dados.A síntese de dados proposta pela meta-análise melhora o potencial estatístico na pesquisa dos efeitos dos tratamentos, apresentando-se mais confiável quanto à estimativa do efeito.
