The vast majority of electric power generation systems, products and industrial processes use machines with a number of phases equal to three. The predominance of the three-phase system led to the more frequent use of three-phase machines. However, with the advancement of the semiconductor switches and the development of converters, the number of phases is no longer a limiting factor in the study and application of polyphase machines.
