The main goal of the current research was to study the so called “Confessional Model of Religious Teaching” and its relationship with the Brazilian Lay State. The purpose was to verify whether this Model is apt to contribute with a formation that is coherent with the constitutional principles of respect to diversity and to pluralism. Therefore this research is Exploratory regarding its objective and Qualitative regarding its approach. Researchers of Religious Sciences as a whole have recognized three “models” of Religious Teaching in the History of Brazil: the Confessional or Catechetical; the Theological or Inter-Confessional; and the Model of the Religious Sciences or Inter-Religious.
