Effects of culture density and shelter on survival of juvenile spider crabs, Maja brachydactyla (Balss, 1922).

The effects of culture density and different natural and prepared feeds were tested on growth and survival of juvenile spider crabs Maja brachydactyla. During the first experiment (exp. 1), two culture densities of 11 and 50 spider crabs were used. During two extra experiments, different feeds were tested. For experiment 2, the 5 diets used were: boiled and frozen shrimp, fresh mussels, white fish fillets, blue fish fillets and a commercial pellet for shrimp. During exp. 3 two diets were tested: commercial pellet for fish, and a mixture of frozen white and blue fish fillets.Durante tres meses se realizaron cuatro experimentos con juveniles de centollo para esclarecer supuestos efectos de canibalismo y comparar dietas naturales y artificiales para buscar las más adecuadas. En el primer experimento se cultivaron centollos a dos densidades (11 individuos m-2 y 50 individuos m-2). En el segundo experimento se cultivaron centollos a la misma densidad de 32 individuos m-2 con macroalgas (Ulva lactuca) y sin macroalgas, para comprobar el efecto de refugio y posible suplemento alimenticio de las algas. En el exp. III se probaron 5 dietas: camarón cocido y congelado, mejillón fresco, pescado blanco, pescado azul y un pienso comercial para langostino. En el exp.
