Previous studies revealed that incubation of Senegalese sole eggs in low salinity water (10 ppt) produced non-functional larvae showing a 100% of occurrence in mouth deformities. The aim of this work was to decipher mechanisms underlying the effect of salinity using staining techniques and whole mount larvae in situ expression of key genes for osmoregulation and head development in early post-hatching larvae. This study has been co-funded by project AQUAGENET (SOE2/P1/ E287) program INTERREG IVB SUDOE, and by project RTA2009-00066-00-00 from the Instituto Nacional de Investigación y Tecnología Agraria y Alimentaria (INIA, Spain), and FEDER (EU). www.juntadeandalucia.es/agriculturaypesca/ifapa/aquagenetEstudios previos mostraro...
