A full account is given of the verbal inflectional system of Swahili (excluding only relativised forms). It is argued that the inflectional systems responsible for negation, tense, aspect, and mood are best handled in some type of word-and-paradigm approach, but that the person-agreement systems, on the other hand are not appropriately treated in this way
